The Shadow Above
Akimi (22) – 秋美
Akimi has always been the responsible one. As mother’s health waned through her childhood, Akimi was her caretaker, by her side till the end. With the death of her mother and her father away from home, Akimi manages the estate is her father’s name. Even after Nara’s return, she continues to run the household, tending to her deteriorating father in his deep depression. Serious and strict, her young siblings view her with almost parental authority, and they rarely dare to cross her. Being the oldest, before the family’s disgrace Akimi had the most opportunity to participate in society and interact with her peers and the community at large. Beautiful and graceful, Akimi was well-liked by the village, and had many suitors enchanted by her. Although after her father’s disgrace she, like the rest of the family, became somewhat isolated from the clan, Akimi is still respected to certain degree. She is often the target of pity; “what a shame for a girl like a Akimi to have such a father”. The occasional suitor will come to Akimi, even now, saying they want to rescue her from her dishonoured family, that she deserves better. Akimi harshly rejects them all, her family is the most cherished thing in her life. Their proposals are nothing more than insults to her, and she couldn’t bear to leave her father in his state, nor her little sister who is still quite young.
